Secuoya Studios and Arrivelo Productions have partnered to develop and produce a historical series based on the Bacardi family business, creators of the renowned rum brand.
The production draws inspiration from real events documented in the Bacardi Archives, a private collection managed by the Bacardi company.
Showrunner and director Jonathan Jakubowicz (‘Resistencia’, ‘Hands of Stone’, ‘Secuestro Express’) will helm the series, and the cast and rest of the production team will be announced soon.

The series joins the long list of projects underway at Secuoya Studios, which has produced series such as ‘Zorro’ (Prime Video) and ‘Montecristo’ (ViX and Movistar Plus+) and has several titles in various stages of production, including the psychological thriller ‘Matices’ for SkyShowtime, the police thriller ‘Terra Alta’ for Movistar Plus+, the historical series ‘Los 39’, and the Spanish adaptation of the Turkish drama ‘Brave and Beautiful’ for Atresmedia.
The Spanish studio also recently announced creative partnerships with Argentine screenwriter and producer Juan Carballo, Black Sheep Productions founder Mónica Aguirre, and producer and director Sergio Cánovas, head of Stellarmedia.
Bacardi was founded in 1862 in Cuba and remains family-owned after more than 160 years and seven generations.
In addition to its story of ambition, adversity, and family, the series will be set during a turbulent period of political revolutions, economic crises, and social change, which will serve as the backdrop to the story and add an international perspective and scale.
“For the last two centuries, the Bacardi company has played a role in the events that have shaped the history of Cuba, while also being at the center of one of the greatest business stories of all time,” commented showrunner and director Jonathan Jakubowic.
“It is a true honor to bring this untold story to life with the help of its protagonists, who have graciously opened their archives to us. I have always dreamed of creating an epic production that captures the complex history of Latin America and its relationship with the United States and Europe,” he added.
Arrivelo Producciones, meanwhile, is a production company specializing in content based on true stories. Led by CEO Andrés Arriaga, the company has a team of investigative journalists across North America, Latin America, Europe, and Africa to find stories like this.
